Research

I am currently working on my dissertation, which is funded by the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada. The ethnographic project focuses on girl feminist bloggers and their articulations of contemporary feminism(s). My methodology uses an ethnographic approach, including in-depth interviews with girl bloggers, participant observations, and discursive textual analysis. I am particularly interested in the ways in which girl bloggers negotiate their girlhood identities with feminist and activist identities, and the ways in which these negotiations foster feminist activism within girls’ daily lives.

My prior research has examined feminist editors and mainstream teen magazines, Tyra Banks and the production of celebrity in new media cultures, and the possibilities of transnational feminisms online. See the publications section for specific references for published work.
